As the 2026 high school football season approaches, the growth of girls flag football in Pennsylvania and New Jersey continues to gain momentum. The sport has seen a significant increase in popularity, with the two states hosting championship games. However, Iowa, governed by the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), has yet to follow suit. Despite the lack of a state championship, Iowa girls flag football teams are preparing for the upcoming season. The IHSAA has not announced any plans to introduce a state championship for the sport. As the popularity of girls flag football continues to rise, it will be interesting to see if Iowa joins the growing list of states offering a state championship for the sport.
