Summer Training Tip: Wolverines' WR Drill for Separation and Speed

๐Ÿ“ South Anchorage WolverinesยทSaturday, July 4, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the South Anchorage Wolverines prepare for the upcoming 4A season, their receivers are focusing on a specific drill to improve separation and speed. The 'Shuttle and Release' drill involves three sets of 5 reps, with a 30-second rest between each set. Players start at the line of scrimmage, then sprint 10 yards downfield before quickly changing direction and releasing back to the quarterback. Coaching cues include 'keep your eyes on the defender' and 'explode off the line.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a receiver's ability to quickly change direction and create separation from defenders. It also enhances their speed and acceleration, allowing them to get open downfield.
