What Coaches Look for on Junior Day Visits: A Guide for LB Prospects

๐Ÿ“ South Anchorage WolverinesยทTuesday, July 7, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

When attending a junior day visit at a 4A program like South Anchorage Wolverines, linebackers should be prepared to showcase their skills and demonstrate their potential as a college-level player. Coaches will evaluate a prospect's ability to read and react to plays, as well as their physical attributes such as speed, agility, and strength. One key metric to focus on is the 3-cone drill, which measures a player's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate. A time of 7.5 seconds or faster in the 3-cone drill is considered excellent for a linebacker. Additionally, coaches will assess a prospect's football IQ, including their understanding of assignments, coverage techniques, and tackling fundamentals. Being prepared to discuss these aspects of the game and demonstrating a strong work ethic will make a lasting impression on coaches and increase a prospect's chances of receiving an offer.
