Speed and Agility for 3A S Players: The Ladder Drill

๐Ÿ“ Soldotna StarsยทTuesday, July 21, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Soldotna Stars' S players can improve their quickness and agility with the ladder drill. This exercise targets the essential movements of a football player, such as speed, acceleration, and change of direction. To set up the drill, place a ladder on the ground with the rungs spaced 6-8 inches apart. Players will start in a three-point stance, then quickly step into the ladder, focusing on keeping their feet shoulder-width apart. They will perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a player's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate on the field, making them a more elusive and dynamic defender.
