Unlock Kicker Power with the 'Swing-Through' Drill
In preparation for the upcoming 4A football season, South Anchorage Wolverines' special teams coach, Mark Thompson, shares a crucial drill to improve kickers' technique and accuracy. The 'Swing-Through' drill targets the kicker's ability to generate power and control on their approach. To execute this drill, have the kicker stand 10 yards from the kicking tee, with a resistance band anchored to a stable object. In a set of 3, have them perform a 5-yard approach, focusing on keeping their eyes on the target and driving through the ball. On the return, they should swing their leg through the resistance band, mimicking their kicking motion. Complete 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to generate power and control on their approach, resulting in more accurate and consistent kicks.
