FridayNightPulse: Explosive RB Drill for 4A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Eagle River WolvesยทSaturday, July 25, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, 4A running backs like those on the Eagle River Wolves can improve their acceleration and power with the 'Box Jump to Lateral' drill. Set up four boxes of varying heights (18-24 inches) and have players perform the following sequence: box jump, immediately lateral step to the right, and then a lateral step to the left. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps and gradually increase to 5 sets of 15 reps. Coaching cues include: 'Explode off the box,' 'Keep your knees bent,' and 'Drive your outside foot.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a RB's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate through small spaces. It also enhances their ability to explode through holes and make big plays.
