Speed and Agility for S Players: The 5-Yard Shuttle Drill
At 4A programs like Eagle River Wolves, developing speed and agility in S players is crucial for success on the field. One effective drill to incorporate into your training regimen is the 5-Yard Shuttle. This drill targets quick changes of direction and acceleration, essential for S players to effectively cover receivers and respond to play-action fakes. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players start at the 5-yard line, then sprint 5 yards to the 10-yard line, quickly change direction, and sprint back to the 5-yard line. Coaching cues include keeping the head up, staying low, and exploding out of the cut. This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to quickly close gaps and cover receivers in space.
