FridayNightPulse Training Tip: 'Shadow' Drill for 3A Cornerbacks
This summer, Soldotna Stars cornerbacks can improve their reaction time and coverage skills with the 'Shadow' drill. Set up a 10-yard grid with cones. Have a quarterback stand at one end, and a receiver at the other. The cornerback will start at the center of the grid. On the quarterback's snap, the cornerback must quickly react and 'shadow' the receiver, staying within 2-3 yards of them. The quarterback will throw a short pass to the receiver, and the cornerback must make a tackle or intercept the ball. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Stay on their hip,' 'React quickly,' and 'Stay disciplined.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching cornerbacks to stay focused and react quickly to receivers' movements, making them more effective in coverage.
