Thompson Warriors LBs: Master the 'Speed to the Ball' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Thompson WarriorsยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For 7A programs like the Thompson Warriors, linebackers need to be in top physical condition to excel on the field. One effective drill to improve their speed and agility is the 'Speed to the Ball' exercise. Set up cones or markers in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Have the LBs start at the first cone, then sprint to the second cone, planting their outside foot and quickly changing direction to the next cone. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'Fast feet, quick hips' and 'Attack the ball, don't wait for it.' This drill translates to game performance by improving LBs' ability to quickly close gaps and make tackles, a crucial skill for 7A programs like the Thompson Warriors.
