Trevon Smith, a safety from Auburn High School in Class 7A, has committed to play for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Class of 2026 standout chose the Red Raiders over other Power Five programs, citing the team's aggressive defensive scheme as a key factor in his decision. Smith believes he will have an opportunity to contribute immediately, potentially competing for a starting spot in the secondary. Academically, he is drawn to Texas Tech's strong programs in engineering and business. Smith previously committed to the Auburn Tigers in 2024 but decommitted in May, allowing him to explore other options. He is considered one of the top safeties in the state of Alabama, boasting impressive metrics, including a 4.5-second 40-yard dash time and a 35-inch vertical jump. Smith plans to enroll at Texas Tech in January 2027 and participate in the spring semester.
