Unlocking Separation: The 5-Yard Slant Drill for 7A WRs

๐Ÿ“ Hewitt-Trussville HuskiesยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Hewitt-Trussville Huskies wide receivers can take their game to the next level with the 5-Yard Slant Drill. Designed to improve quickness and separation, this drill targets the key skills needed to succeed in the 7A classification. Start by lining up WRs 5 yards off the line of scrimmage, with a defender aligned 1 yard off the line. On the snap, the WR runs a 5-yard slant route, focusing on quick footwork and hand placement. The defender must react and stay in phase. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'square your feet' and 'drive to the ball.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching WRs to create separation and win one-on-one battles in tight spaces.
