Red Devil Block Party: A Drilling Technique to Bolster Central-Phenix City's OL
The Red Devils' 7A showdowns require a dominant line presence. To fortify their O-line, Central-Phenix City's coaching staff has implemented the 'Block Party Drill.' This exercise focuses on footwork, hand placement, and body positioning. Set up a series of cones or markers 5 yards apart, forming a zigzag pattern. OL players will navigate through the course, focusing on quick footwork and explosive acceleration. Each player will perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'inside foot first,' 'hands up high,' and 'body lean.' This drill translates to game performance by improving OL players' ability to quickly close gaps and secure blocks. By emphasizing footwork and body positioning, the Red Devils' linemen will be better equipped to handle the physicality of 7A competition.
