Thompson Warriors WRs: Master the 'Route Box Drill' for Pre-Season Success
To dominate 7A competition, WRs must be precise in their route running. Coach Thompson's staff has developed the 'Route Box Drill' to sharpen their skills. Divide the WRs into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the defender. Set up three cones in a box formation (5 yards x 5 yards). The receiver starts at the top of the box, while the defender lines up at the bottom. On the coach's signal, the receiver sprints to the top-right corner, then immediately cuts back to the top-left corner, finishing at the bottom-left corner. The defender must stay within the box, mirroring the receiver's movements. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the WR's ability to quickly change direction and beat defenders in tight spaces.
