Unlocking Dominance: Central-Phenix City Red Devils' DE Drill

๐Ÿ“ Central-Phenix City Red DevilsยทTuesday, July 14, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Red Devils' defensive line coach has developed a drill to enhance the speed, agility, and strength of their 7A defensive end players. The 'Shuttle Blast' drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds of rest in between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, 5 yards apart, and on the whistle, they explosively sprint 10 yards to the right, then immediately change direction and sprint 10 yards back to the left. As they change direction, they must explosively jump into the air, landing softly on the balls of their feet. The coaching cue is to 'blast off the line' and 'change direction like a whip.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the DE's ability to quickly close gaps and pursue the quarterback.
