FridayNightPulse: Unleash the Beast - 7A Defensive End Drill

๐Ÿ“ Hoover BuccaneersยทWednesday, July 15, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For 7A programs like Hoover Buccaneers, dominating defensive ends are a necessity. To develop the speed, strength, and agility needed to take down top tackles, we're introducing the 'Shuttle Blast' drill. This high-intensity workout targets the DE's ability to quickly change direction and explode off the line. To set up, divide players into pairs with one player as the 'blast' and the other as the 'blocker.' The blast player starts 5 yards behind the blocker, who is positioned at the line of scrimmage. The blast player sprints to the blocker, then immediately changes direction and blasts through the blocker's legs. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 60 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet,' 'explosive acceleration,' and 'finish through the hole.' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the DE's ability to rapidly close the gap and burst through the line, making it an essential addition to any 7A program's pre-season training regimen.
