Boosting Kicking Distance with the 'Drop Step' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Thompson WarriorsยทTuesday, July 21, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the 7A season approaches, Thompson Warriors' kicking specialists can take their game to the next level with the 'Drop Step' drill. This exercise targets the core strength and flexibility essential for powerful kicks. To perform the drill, have the kicker stand 10 yards from a tee with a ball placed on it. On the coach's signal, the kicker drops their dominant foot behind the non-kicking foot, keeping the knee bent at a 90-degree angle. From this position, they explosively step forward with the non-kicking foot, striking the ball with the laces. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick turnover and proper form. This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to generate power and maintain balance under pressure.
