Thompson Warriors' RB Drill: Building Speed and Agility

๐Ÿ“ Thompson WarriorsยทTuesday, July 21, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Thompson Warriors' coaching staff has developed a drill to improve running backs' speed and agility, perfect for 7A programs. The 'Ladder Weave' drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps. Players start in a 5-yard box, then weave through a ladder set up in a zig-zag pattern. After completing the weave, they immediately change direction and sprint 10 yards to a designated cone. Coaches should emphasize proper footwork and explosive acceleration. This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to quickly change direction and accelerate through holes. It also enhances their vision and ability to read blocks. To add an extra challenge, coaches can add a 'hands up' component, where players must keep their hands up to simulate contact.
