Red Devil QBs Get Ready for Gridiron Showdowns with Quick Release Drill

๐Ÿ“ Central-Phenix City Red DevilsยทWednesday, July 22, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Red Devils prepare for another 7A showdown, quarterback coach, Mark Smith, emphasizes the importance of a quick release in the pocket. To achieve this, Smith has his QBs perform the 'Rapid Fire' drill. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. The QB starts in a 3-point stance, takes the snap, and immediately fires the ball to a receiver 10 yards downfield. Coaching cues include 'Load the ball, step into it, and let it go!' The focus is on quick footwork and a smooth release. This drill translates to game performance by allowing QBs to quickly read defenses and deliver the ball to their receivers before the defense can react. By incorporating the 'Rapid Fire' drill into their pre-season workout, Red Devil QBs will be ready to take on the toughest opponents in the 7A classification.
