Husky Defensive Ends: Mastering the 'Rush and Recover' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Hewitt-Trussville HuskiesยทWednesday, July 22, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At top 7A programs like Hewitt-Trussville Huskies, defensive ends must possess elite speed, strength, and agility to dominate on the gridiron. To improve their rush and recover skills, DEs can focus on the 'Rush and Recover' drill. This high-intensity exercise consists of 3 sets of 5 reps: (1) rush 10 yards downfield, (2) immediately change direction and recover to the starting position, and (3) explosively jump up and land softly on both feet. Coaching cues include 'Fast feet, quick hands,' and 'Recover, don't collapse.' This drill translates to game performance by enhancing DEs' ability to quickly close gaps and recover to the ball carrier, making them a force to be reckoned with on the defensive line.
