Huskies' Defensive End Drill: Building Speed and Power

๐Ÿ“ Hewitt-Trussville HuskiesยทThursday, July 23, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Hewitt-Trussville Huskies, defensive end coach, John Smith, has implemented a drill to improve his players' speed and power. The 'Ladder Blast' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps. Players start at the 5-yard line, then sprint to the 10-yard line, exploding into a lateral jump, landing, and immediately sprinting back to the 5-yard line. This sequence is repeated for 10 reps. Coaching cues include: 'Quick feet, explosive jump,' and 'Drive through the ground.' This drill translates to game performance by increasing speed and agility, allowing defensive ends to close gaps and chase down ball carriers. It also enhances power, enabling them to drive through tackles and disrupt opposing offenses.
