Speed Rush Drill: Boosting Buccaneer Defensive Ends

๐Ÿ“ Hoover BuccaneersยทSaturday, July 25, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For 7A programs like Hoover Buccaneers, defensive ends need to be explosive off the snap. The Speed Rush Drill targets this key area. Set up cones 5 yards apart in a zig-zag pattern. DEs start at the line, then sprint through the course, focusing on quick feet and powerful acceleration. Coaches cue: 'Fast feet, fast hands.' Have DEs perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 2 minutes between sets. To increase difficulty, add a bag or sled to the course. This drill translates to game performance by improving DEs' ability to quickly close gaps and pressure the quarterback. By emphasizing speed and agility, coaches can help their defensive ends become more effective pass rushers and disrupt opposing offenses.
