Dominating the Edge: A DE Drill for 7A Programs

๐Ÿ“ North Little Rock Charging WildcatsยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For 7A defensive end players like those at North Little Rock Charging Wildcats, dominating the edge requires a combination of strength, speed, and agility. To improve their pass rush and contain skills, trainers can implement the following drill: the 'Rapid Fire' drill. Set up a series of cones or markers 5 yards apart, with a quarterback or coach at the end of the line. DEs will start at the line, then rapidly change direction through the cones, simulating a pass rush. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive acceleration' and 'quick feet.' This drill translates to game performance by improving DEs' ability to quickly close the gap and make tackles for loss. It also enhances their agility and reaction time, allowing them to stay one step ahead of opponents.
