FridayNightPulse: Tight End Training Tip for 4A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Shiloh Christian SaintsยทSaturday, July 4, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Shiloh Christian Saints TE coach, John Smith, is implementing the 'Route Box Drill' to improve his players' route running and separation skills. The drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players line up in a 5-yard box, with cones marking the corners. Coach Smith yells out a route (e.g. 'Out', 'In', 'Slant'), and the TE must run the route, focusing on quick feet, sharp cuts, and proper hand placement. Coaching cues include 'Keep your eyes on the quarterback' and 'Sell the route.' This drill translates to game performance by improving TE's ability to create separation and get open in tight spaces.
