Summer WR Training: Bulldog Blitz
For 6A programs like the Greenwood Bulldogs, developing explosive wide receivers is crucial to success. One drill that can help is the 'Fly Route Sprint.' This workout targets speed, agility, and route-running precision. To set up, divide your WRs into pairs with one player as the receiver and the other as the quarterback. The receiver starts at the 5-yard line, while the QB lines up 10 yards deep. On the signal, the QB throws a deep fly route, and the receiver sprints to the end zone. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, resting for 2 minutes between sets. Coaching cues include 'Run the route like you're being chased' and 'Keep your eyes on the ball.' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to separate from defenders and make plays downfield.
