Boosting Kickoff Coverage: A Drill for 7A Kickers

๐Ÿ“ Bryant HornetsยทTuesday, July 7, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the summer heat intensifies, 7A programs like the Bryant Hornets are gearing up for a strong season. One key area of focus for kickers is building explosive acceleration off the line of scrimmage. To improve kickoff coverage, try this drill: 'Rapid Fire' starts with the kicker in a 3-point stance, then explosively drives off the ground, covering 10 yards in 2 seconds. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cue: 'Drive, don't lift' emphasizes proper technique. This drill translates to game performance by increasing the kicker's speed and agility, allowing them to quickly close the gap to the returner and limit the opponent's field position.
