FridayNightPulse: 5A Linebacker Drill for Explosive Tackles

๐Ÿ“ Pulaski Academy BruinsยทWednesday, July 8, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Pulaski Academy Bruins and other top 5A programs, linebackers are working on a critical drill to improve their explosive tackling ability. The 'Rope to Tackle' drill consists of three sets of 10 reps: 1) Start with a rope jump to simulate a burst of speed, 2) immediately transition into a tackling stance, and 3) explode onto a tackling pad or a teammate in a tackling drill. Coaching cues include 'Rope to Tackle' and 'Burst to Finish.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching linebackers to quickly change direction and generate force on contact. By incorporating this drill into their training, 5A linebackers can improve their ability to make game-changing tackles and secure crucial stops.
