FridayNightPulse Training Tip: 'Shadow' Drill for 7A Cornerbacks

๐Ÿ“ North Little Rock Charging WildcatsยทSaturday, July 11, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, cornerbacks at top 7A programs like North Little Rock Charging Wildcats can improve their reaction time and footwork with the 'Shadow' drill. Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 rungs, spaced 3 feet apart. Players start at the top, then drop down to the next rung upon hearing a whistle. They must immediately 'shadow' the coach's movement, mimicking their steps. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'React, React, React' and 'Stay on My Hip.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching cornerbacks to quickly change direction and stay in phase with receivers, creating opportunities for turnovers and pass breakups.
