Boosting Kicking Game for 4A Programs: The 'Rapid Fire' Drill
For kickers at 4A programs like Shiloh Christian Saints, a key aspect of pre-season training is building consistency and accuracy under pressure. The 'Rapid Fire' drill is designed to simulate game-like scenarios and improve a kicker's ability to make clutch kicks. To run the drill, set up five cones in a zig-zag pattern, 10 yards apart. Divide the kicker's reps into sets of 5, with 30 seconds of rest in between. On each rep, the kicker must kick the ball through the cones without touching any of the markers. Coaching cues include 'stay focused' and 'keep your head down.' This drill translates to game performance by forcing the kicker to maintain their technique and composure in high-pressure situations, ultimately leading to more made kicks and a stronger kicking game.
