Improving Blocking Technique: The 3-Point Stance Drill for TEs at Greenwood Bulldogs
At 6A programs like the Greenwood Bulldogs, tight ends must be versatile and prepared to block in various situations. To improve their blocking technique, we recommend the 3-Point Stance Drill. This drill focuses on proper footwork, hand placement, and body positioning. To set up, have the TE stand with feet shoulder-width apart, then take three small steps forward with one foot and plant the other foot. Next, have them place their hands on the ground and push up to a 3-point stance. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'feet wide, hands wide' and 'push up, drive through.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to quickly get into position and generate power at the point of attack. It also enhances their ability to read blocks and make adjustments on the fly.
