FridayNightPulse: Power Through Contact with the RB 'Box Drill'

๐Ÿ“ North Little Rock Charging WildcatsยทSaturday, July 25, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, 7A programs like North Little Rock's Charging Wildcats are focusing on building their running back corps' ability to power through contact. The 'Box Drill' is a key component of this preparation. Players will start at the line of scrimmage, with a defender waiting in the box. On the snap, the RB will attack the hole, aiming for the defender's chest. The defender will attempt to wrap up the RB, but the player must 'box out' by keeping their feet and driving through the tackle. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'drive through,' 'keep your feet,' and 'finish.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching RBs to maintain balance and generate power through contact, allowing them to break tackles and gain extra yards.
