Saturating the Second Level: A Drill for 4A OL Dominance
As the 4A season approaches, Shiloh Christian Saints' linemen are gearing up for a fierce competition. To improve their ability to saturate the second level, we're introducing a drill that targets footwork, hand placement, and body positioning. The 'Second Level Saturator' consists of four sets of 10 reps: (1) Players start in a three-point stance, 5 yards off the line. On the whistle, they explosively drive forward, aiming to hit the second level (5 yards deep) with their hands. (2) Focus on footwork, emphasizing a 'step-hinge-step' pattern. (3) With a partner, practice hand placement by 'feeling' the defender's chest. (4) Incorporate a 'body lean' to enhance balance and control. This drill translates to game performance by allowing OL to quickly adjust to defensive schemes and secure blocks in tight spaces.
