Perry Pumas Linebacker Drill: 'The Stance Shuffle'
The Stance Shuffle is a high-intensity drill designed to improve linebacker agility, reaction time, and pad level. At Perry High School, our coaching staff has implemented this drill to prepare our 6A Pumas for the upcoming season. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players start in a standard linebacker stance, then shuffle 5 yards to their left, plant their outside foot, and immediately change direction to their right, shuffling another 5 yards. The key coaching cue is to 'keep the back foot light' and 'drive through the planted foot.' This drill translates to game performance by improving linebackers' ability to quickly close gaps and change direction on the field. By incorporating The Stance Shuffle into your pre-season training, you'll see a noticeable improvement in your linebackers' agility and reaction time.
