FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Huskies' Tight End Drill
At 6A programs like Hamilton Huskies, tight ends need to be well-rounded athletes with exceptional blocking and receiving skills. To improve their performance, we recommend the 'Box Drill'. This drill focuses on the TE's ability to release from a box formation and create separation from defenders. To run the drill: Set up 5-6 cones in a box formation, 5 yards apart. Have the TE start in the center of the box, then release to the outside, running a 5-yard route. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Release to the numbers', 'Keep your head on a swivel', and 'Finish with your feet'. This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to quickly release from a formation and create separation from defenders, making them a more effective blocker and receiver.
