Perry Pumas OL Training Tip: 'The 3-Box Drill'

๐Ÿ“ Perry PumasยทWednesday, July 15, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Summer is in full swing, and the Perry Pumas are gearing up for another dominant 6A season. For their linemen, Coach Thompson is emphasizing the importance of footwork and hand placement. Here's a drill to help them improve: The 3-Box Drill. Set up three boxes or markers in a row, spaced 3 feet apart. Players start at the first box, then quickly move to the second box, and finally to the third box. As they move, they must maintain proper footwork and hand placement, keeping their hands inside their knees. Coach Thompson recommends 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the linemen's ability to quickly change direction and maintain control in tight spaces. It's a key component of the Pumas' pre-season training regimen.
