Saguaro Sabercats' Speed Secrets: The 3-Cone Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Saguaro SabercatsยทMonday, July 20, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Saguaro Sabercats prepare for another dominant 5A season, their speed coaches are putting their receivers through a grueling 3-Cone Shuttle drill. This high-intensity workout targets the quick changes of direction and rapid acceleration that are crucial for success in the open field. The drill consists of three 5-yard cones set up in a triangular formation. Players start at one cone, sprint to the next, then change direction and accelerate to the final cone, before reversing the process. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive acceleration' and 'aggressive change of direction.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a receiver's ability to create separation and make plays down the field.
