Enhancing Speed and Agility for S Players: The 'L-Cone Weave' Drill
As the summer heat intensifies, S players at 6A programs like the Hamilton Huskies are putting in the work to refine their speed and agility. One effective drill to incorporate into your training regimen is the 'L-Cone Weave.' This exercise targets rapid changes of direction and acceleration, essential skills for S players in the open field.
**Setup:** Set up 3-4 cones in an 'L' shape, with 5 yards between each cone. S players will start at the bottom of the 'L' and weave through the cones in a zig-zag pattern, focusing on quick footwork and explosive acceleration.
**Drill:** Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Keep your eyes up,' 'Drive through your outside foot,' and 'Accelerate out of each cut.' This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to quickly change direction and accelerate to the ball, making them more effective in coverage and pursuit.
