Saguaro Sabercats' Summer OL Drill: Building a Dominant Line
This summer, Saguaro Sabercats' OL coach is focusing on a specific drill to build strength and technique in his linemen. The drill, called the 'Plyometric Push-Pull,' targets the OL's ability to explosively drive block and then quickly change direction. To set up the drill, pair OL players in teams of two. Each player starts in a 3-point stance, with one player as the blocker and the other as the defender. On the whistle, the blocker explodes upward, using their legs to generate power, and then quickly pulls the defender to the side. The players then switch roles. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive up' and 'quick change.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the OL's ability to quickly change direction and generate power, making them nearly unstoppable in the trenches.
