Explosive Speed for 5A RBs: The 'Lateral Shuffle' Drill
This summer, Desert Edge Scorpions running backs can take their game to the next level with the 'Lateral Shuffle' drill. Coach Thompson recommends 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest in between sets. Start by having the RB stand with feet shoulder-width apart, then quickly shuffle to the left and right, mimicking a defender's movement. Key coaching cues include: 'Fast feet, slow hands,' and 'Keep your eyes up, stay balanced.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the RB's ability to change direction quickly and maintain speed. It also enhances their vision and reaction time, allowing them to read the defense more effectively. By incorporating the 'Lateral Shuffle' into their training regimen, Scorpions RBs will be better equipped to break tackles and make big plays in the 5A playoffs.
