Perry Pumas TE Drill: 'Shallow Out' Route Work

๐Ÿ“ Perry PumasยทMonday, July 27, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the summer heat intensifies, 6A TE's at Perry High School are putting in the work to dominate the competition this season. One key drill that's been making waves is the 'Shallow Out' route workout. This exercise targets footwork, hand-eye coordination, and route-running precision. To set up the drill, divide the TEs into pairs with one player as the receiver and the other as the quarterback. The receiver starts in a shallow stance, 5 yards off the line of scrimmage, while the QB calls out the route. The receiver must quickly 'out' to the designated spot, using a 3-step drop and a 45-degree cut. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Fast feet, quick hands' and 'Stay low, stay focused'. This drill translates to game performance by allowing TEs to develop the agility and precision needed to separate from defenders in the shallow zone.
