Saguaro Sabercats' Summer OL Drill: Building Power and Agility

๐Ÿ“ Saguaro SabercatsยทWednesday, July 29, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Saguaro Sabercats' 5A football program is gearing up for a dominant season, and their offensive line is a key component. To build power and agility, Coach Thompson's OL coach has developed a drill that targets the athletes' ability to explosively drive block and quickly change direction. The 'Power Shuffles' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, then explosively drive block for 5 yards, shuffling their feet to change direction and accelerate towards the next block. Coaching cues emphasize proper footwork, hip rotation, and arm extension. This drill translates to game performance by improving OL's ability to quickly react to defensive schemes and maintain a strong block on the edge.
