Route Running Precision for 6A WRs: The '5-7-5' Drill
As the summer heats up, Hamilton Huskies wide receivers are putting in the work to refine their route running skills. The '5-7-5' drill is a key component of their pre-season training. This drill is designed to improve a receiver's ability to quickly change direction, accelerate, and maintain control of the ball. The setup: 5 yards of sprinting, 7 yards of sharp cutting, and 5 yards of acceleration to a stop. Coaches will shout 'release' as the receiver reaches the 7-yard mark, simulating the release from the quarterback. Reps: 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing receivers to develop the quickness and agility needed to create separation from defenders. It also helps them maintain control of the ball in tight spaces.
