Power Positioning Drill for OL Dominance
At Servite Friars' Open programs, linemen are putting in the work with a drill that focuses on power positioning. The 'Anchor and Shift' drill is a game-changer for OL players looking to improve their ability to control the line of scrimmage. To set up the drill, have OL players pair up and stand shoulder-to-shoulder. The coach will call out a series of hand signals, indicating the player on the right side of the pair needs to shift their feet and anchor their inside foot. The player on the left side must mirror the movement, keeping their outside foot planted. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'inside foot down' and 'outside foot up.' This drill translates to game performance by improving OL players' ability to quickly adjust to changing blocking schemes and maintain a strong anchor point, allowing them to drive defenders off the line of scrimmage.
