Kicker Prep: Building Leg Strength at De La Salle's Open Program

๐Ÿ“ De La Salle SpartansยทSunday, July 5, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At De La Salle's renowned Open program, kickers are put through a rigorous training regimen to build the strength and endurance needed to succeed at the highest level. One key drill for K players is the 'Medicine Ball Toss and Catch.' This exercise targets the hips, glutes, and core, essential for generating power and accuracy on kicks. Coaches will have K players pair up and stand 10 yards apart, with one player holding a medicine ball. The kicker tosses the ball to their partner, who then tosses it back. The kicker will then catch the ball and immediately perform a 3-step ladder drill, focusing on quick footwork and agility. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to quickly change direction and generate power on their approach. It's a must-inclusion for any Open program looking to elevate their K game.
