Unlock Explosive Separation: The 'Quick Release' Drill for Wide Receivers
At St. John Bosco Braves' Open programs, wide receivers are honing their skills with the 'Quick Release' drill. This high-intensity exercise targets the speed and agility needed to separate from defenders. To set up, divide the receivers into pairs with one player as the ball carrier and the other as the defender. The ball carrier starts in a 3-point stance, while the defender lines up 5 yards away. On the whistle, the ball carrier explodes forward, releasing the ball at the top of their drive. The defender must react quickly to cover the receiver. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing receivers to develop the speed, agility, and ball-handling skills necessary to create separation from defenders and make big plays down the field.
