De La Salle Spartans' CB Drill: The 'Shadow' Technique

๐Ÿ“ De La Salle SpartansยทSaturday, July 18, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At De La Salle Spartans' Open programs, cornerbacks are put through a rigorous training regimen to prepare them for the upcoming season. One key drill is the 'Shadow' technique, designed to improve reaction time and ball skills. The drill involves two players: one as the receiver and the other as the cornerback. The receiver runs a 5-yard out route, and the cornerback must shadow the receiver's every move, staying within 1 yard of their body. The cornerback must also maintain their feet and stay low, keeping their eyes on the receiver's hands. The drill is performed for 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to develop a sense of spatial awareness and anticipation, making it easier to stay with receivers on the field.
