FridayNightPulse: Serra Cavaliers DE Drill for Dominance
For defensive ends looking to take their game to the next level, Serra Cavaliers' coaching staff has developed a drill to improve speed, agility, and hand-eye coordination. The 'Rapid Fire' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest in between sets. Players will start in a 3-point stance, with their feet shoulder-width apart. On the whistle, they must quickly change direction to their left, then right, while maintaining a low center of gravity. As they change direction, they must also focus on punching the air with their hands, simulating a pass rush. Coaching cues include 'quick feet, quick hands,' and 'stay low, stay mean.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a DE's ability to quickly close gaps and disrupt the quarterback's timing.
