Mater Dei Monarchs Promote Assistant Coach to Coordinator Role
Mater Dei Monarchs head coach, Ryan O'Hara, has elevated longtime assistant coach, Chris Tormey, to the position of defensive coordinator. Tormey, who has spent four seasons developing talent within the program, will oversee the Monarchs' defense as they prepare for the upcoming season. The Monarchs, a perennial power in the CIF Southern Section, have won six state championships since 2009 and have a 55-5 record over the past five seasons. With Tormey's promotion, Mater Dei is expected to remain a top contender in the Open Division. The move also signals a shift in recruiting strategy, as the Monarchs will likely focus on developing their own talent rather than relying on high-profile transfers. The Monarchs' defense, which ranked among the top 10 in the state last season, is expected to be a key factor in their success this fall.
