Pueblo South Colts Promote Assistant Coach to Coordinator Role
Pueblo South Colts head coach, Tom Smith, announced Friday the promotion of assistant coach, Alex Johnson, to defensive coordinator. Johnson, a four-year assistant, has been instrumental in developing the Colts' defensive unit. The Colts, a 4A program, finished last season with a 7-4 record, narrowly missing a playoff berth. Johnson's elevation is expected to bolster the team's recruiting efforts, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. The move also sets the stage for a competitive 2026 season, as the Colts look to contend for a league title and make a deeper playoff run. Johnson's familiarity with the program and his coaching staff will be key in implementing a cohesive defensive strategy. The Colts' summer camp is set to begin July 25, with Johnson leading the defensive unit.
