Boosting Kicking Power for 5A Programs: The Pomona Panthers' Punt Return Drill

๐Ÿ“ Pomona PanthersยทTuesday, July 14, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Pomona Panthers' kicking game is a crucial component to their 5A success, and this summer, they're focusing on building explosive power and control. Here's a drill to help K players like senior kicker, Alex Johnson, prepare for the season ahead. **Punt Return Drill:** Set up 3-4 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 10 yards apart. Players start at the first cone, then sprint to the second cone while making a sharp cut to the left or right. From there, they accelerate to the third cone, making another sharp cut. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cue: 'Drive through the cut, don't just turn.' This drill translates to game performance by improving agility, acceleration, and the ability to change direction quickly, all essential skills for a punter or kicker in a punt return situation.
