FridayNightPulse Training Tip: TE Power Passing Drills
At 5A programs like Cherry Creek Bruins, tight ends are expected to be versatile contributors on offense. One key drill to improve TE power passing skills is the 'Box Pass' drill. Set up a 10-yard box with a defender in the middle and a receiver at the edge. The TE starts at the line of scrimmage, takes 3-4 steps back, and then explodes through the box, extending their arms to deliver a tight spiral to the receiver. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on proper footwork, arm extension, and follow-through. Coaching cues include 'box it up' and 'throw through the numbers.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to read coverage and deliver accurate passes in tight windows. It also enhances their ability to create separation and make plays downfield.
